In the track motion window, you can choose all the compostion modes that you can also choose in the track header. I use the Source alpha for 2D track motion and 3D source alpha for 3D track motion.

Now the question: if I want to use any of the composition modes, does it make any difference whether I select them in the track motion window or in the track header? To me it looks the same if I do it one way or the other.

One is affecting the entire composite of tracks while the other only affects the single track it’s applied to. When you only have two tracks, there is no difference between these but when you have more tracks it becomes obvious. Try this setup:

    • Add a Color Gradient (Linear White to Black) to the first track
    • Drop any pieces of media on tracks 2 and 3
    • Parent track 2 to track 1

If you place Track 1 into Multiply (Mask) mode you will only see Track 2 because it is only affecting the first track beneath it. Now put Track 1 back into Source Alpha and instead, place the Parent Composite into Multiply (Mask) mode. You will now see Track 3. This is because it’s effecting all of the child tracks as one.

    OK thanks, this sounds logic.
