    Hi,

I’m trying to create a video layering effect in Vegas 6. I have three shots:

    1. Girl in mirror
    2. Second Girl in Mirror
    3. Guy in Mirror

I shot all three actors seperately, without moving the tripod, so the frame itself is exactly the same in all three shots. What I want to do is have Girl 1 in the shot, fade in Girl 2, then fade in the Guy. I’ve managed to sort of create the effect using masking and parent/child relationships, but it’s not clean and the second two videos are semi-transparent. I would like all three of the images at the same opaqueness and have them layed in the above order (i.e. Girl 1 in foreground, Girl 2 in the middle, and the Guy in the background). Anyone who could help me out or point me in the right direction would be incredibly helpful.

    Thanks,
    Sean

See if the Two Cats From One tutorial will help you out.

You need to mask out the second girl and guy and then put them on tracks above the first girl. On the second two, you would ONLY be seeing that particular person.

Do you have a shot with NO people in it?

Unfortunately I don’t, after the fact I realized that I should have gotten one, but I don’t. I can see now that it would have been much easier if I had, then I could have just masked all three over that image. Any thought on how I can do it using what I have?

Thanks, I’m going to look at it right now.
