I’m calibrating my monitor (TV Logic LVM-240w). I’m aware that component being the analogue signal looks warmer and SDI looks colder, and so this has proved in my tests, but which one should I calibrate to?

I had calibrated the SDI signal and thought things looked good – a little darker and desaturated, but that’s what a calibrated monitor should look like – eh? Then I jumped over to the analogue signal and it’s very warm – looks great – but which is right?

I’m running out of an MXO2.

I edit both SD PAL and HD in a number of flavours.

[Dan Atkinson] “looks great – but which is right?”

SDI – is usually the one to go with as it can’t be interferred
with and influenced like an analog signal can.

A signal to specification shouldn’t really look different
if its analog or digital as long as the analog is properly tuned and shielded.

If the color temp is different enough that it looks warmer or colder and
contrast is affected something is out of whack.

My guess is that the analog signal is being affected by a proc amp. I believe the MXO2 has a software proc amp that might be making the component signal warmer.

    Cheers guys.

I’ll stick with SDI, and maybe ask around on the Matrox forum to see about the proc amp, although I think it’s only on HDMI out.
