Hi, I am trying to create a complicated cutaway animation where the boole is tool slow to practically work with.

I believe there is a technique for cutaways using materials and transparency instead of the boole, but I can’t seem to find any articles about it. This tutorial accomplishes a similar effect, just using a gradient instead of 3D geometry.

Does anyone who frequently does cutaways know how to accomplish this? Or know of other tools with better performance than boole?

    Thanks!

there was a plugin called rBoole which does booles by transparency. It stopped working in the Standard renderer a couple versions ago but was still working in Physical in R17 (and after a quick test) appears to be working in R18 as well. I don’t know if it’s stable or not but it was in R17.

Hi Brian, I wasn’t able to find anywhere to download or purchase rBoole. Could you possibly send me the files?

I ended up finding a partial solution by deselecting the “high quality” option. Reducing the number of polygons as much as possible when exporting into C4D also helps.
