Comping into Live Action
Posted by Rob Hindley on September 21, 2005 at 7:39 amI am ready to render my character for comping into live action in after effects. What is the best way to proceed?

September 21, 2005 at 2:25 pmIt is hard to do this without specialized software such as image or 3D trackers. They analyse the movie and calculate a 3D camera from it. This can be imported to C4D and used to render out your 3D objects. A later compositing of the live action movie with the rendered movie should match perfectly then.

If it’s a dead lock off, or a small bit of hand held long lens work you can match move it using a 2D tracker in a compositor. If you are going to see perspective changes, you need a 3D tracker like SynthEyes to get your C4D cam to match to the real Cam.
As far as compositing, C4D makes it very easy if you are going to AE, Shake, or Motion. Just read your manual on how to render out multiple passes and generate a project file for one of those apps.
