D1/DV Widescreen uses non-square pixels, so you might need to check the Pixel Aspect Ratio Correction button
while you work to see the real aspect ratio. Previews will be a little jagged in the viewer, but your renders will be perfect. If you work in HD, make sure you use the “HDTV 1080 25” preset (which uses square pixels), NOT the “HDV 1080 25” preset (which uses rectangular pixels). Two quick ways to downscale:
- Drop an HD comp in a D1/DV Widescreen, scale to fit, and render that out for a quick down-convert.
- Render out your HD comp and scale down to SD when you encode for the DVD.
Good luck with your project.
