Comment on the Canon J series vs. YJ lenses
Hi all,
I’m looking to buy a used SD lens for my SDX900. For those of you that have experience with both the Canon YJ and J series lenses, a couple of questions:
1. Is the imaging noticeably better with the J series lenses?
2. If so, do you feel it’s worth the additional expense?
3. Any comments on the super-wide J11ax4.5 lens?Thanks so much.

We have a Canon 11×4.7 lens for our HD F-900 camera. It allows us to shoot in a 10 x 10 room, a motor vehicle, an elevator, almost anywhere.
A lot of people skimp on their lenses because they don’t see a difference. If you hook up to a top of the line monitor with YUV cables, you will definitly see the improvement in picture quality, increased light, and the ability to fine focus.
We paid $26,000 for our lens. I’m sure that yours will be less.
While you’re testing lenses, try out some primes.

A follow-up question. In the situations where you want to create a shallow DOF (interview, close-up, etc.), is the focal length long enough further into the lens to create that?

With the super wide glass, you can knock out the background by moving about 15″ from your subject. Not like Panavision, but noticable.
