Comedy at the Apple store
Posted by Chris Poisson on October 10, 2005 at 2:15 pmWas just looking at Powerbooks yesterday, the 15″ would not boot FCP and the 17″ which had a demo project in it was dropping frames like crazy! MIxdown did nothing to stop it. You’d think they would have better demos going on!

must have had the wrong type of media on it, like uncompressed or something.
really silly of them to not have the product working correctly. I actually avoid one of the stores here because the manager is just not a very nice person and can be downright rude. Not really a great person to have running the store if you want to win people over to Mac.

October 10, 2005 at 6:00 pmAt least you have the option of being able to get to an Apple Store. Up here in the great white north they’re non-existant and the Mac place I deal with locally leaves much to be desired. When I phoned them to find out about G5’s they said they hadn’t seen any for over a month and weren’t expecting any in for another month at least. They also assured me that no one else in the area had any, either. But when I phoned a drug store chain that have small Apple display areas in the back of their stores (in amongst the substantial Windows stuff) and made some inquiries, they told me their inventory showed 13 G5 2.7’s in their system. I bought one.
I’m still waiting for the local Mac store to phone me back regarding RAM. Three weeks ago they said they were expecting a shipment due to arrive in a week and would phone me the minute it came in.

Go online to http://www.crucial.com. Great RAM for Macs at a good price.

October 10, 2005 at 7:31 pmThanks Walter. Yes, I know about Crucial but right now I’m a little leary about cross-border shopping because of the high shipping costs associated with that. We tried to order Quickbooks for Mac from the USA and they were going to charge us 75 bucks American just for shipping. They said they could only ship by air freight and that’s because of new rules, etc. In total we were looking at almost $600.00 Canadian for a program worth $199.00 Amercian for the Windows version.
But guess what? When we booted up the new G5 a couple weeks ago we discovered Quick Books Pro on it. Not a demo. Not a time limited version but the real deal.
There IS a god.

Don,
You have a great RAM resource right next door to you.
They’re on the island and they usually have what you want in stock with next day delivery. I believe they also have Crucial.

October 12, 2005 at 3:56 amThe Apple Store in Toronto is great if you have an iPod but the Pro apps, forget about it! I went in there recently for a demo of Soundtrack Pro and the guy kept showing me GarageBand. And and don’t even think about asking about HDV. Lots of staff but not many answers.
