I have a few vector objects layered, you could say, on top of one another to create one object. I want to combine all of these objects so that there is only one outline. I thought “merge” would do it, but no. I’ve included a screen shot so you can see all the paths i’m talking about that don’t need to be there…i just want one object with one outline around it.

Use the first icon in your pathfinder palette (add to shape area). You may want to option click when doing this so that you only have one path as your final result and not a live pathfinder.
