I have about half HDV 1080i 20 footage and half standard 4:3 SD DV video. I captured the DV into a DV project, and intend to import the DV project into the HDV project, make my edits, and then export SD MPEG-2 for DVD.

However once the editing is locked, I intend to import the completed HDV project into an SD 4:3 project, so that the SD footage fills the screen, and the HDV will be letterboxed, or not for that matter, while maintaining an HDV version of the project.

If I start in an SD project, with imported HDV project, I can certainly complete the SD project with fewer steps, but then I do not have an HDV version.

I suppose the best thing to do is experiment, just thought I’d get some feedback from others.
    Thanks
    Mike

after a few minutes of experimenting, it seems importing the HDV project into a DV project will simply require the copying and pasting of motion settings to the HDV footage and motion/crop settings to the DV footage. It will probably take a day to conform the HDV project to DV for the final render.

I still would like to hear others’ experiences.

    Hey–
I’m in the same boat… I have a project where one camera shot HD, and the other DV (though both 16:9). For the preview, we just down-converted all the HD to a regular exported mpeg, but now that it’s been approved we’d like the HD to remain HD and wonder what to do about the DV stuff! Out of a total of 6 DVDs, this is what we have:
1- combined HD and DV, back and forth…
    2- just HD
3- combined HD and DV, back and forth
    4-6 just HD…

How would I go about up-converting the DV to fit my HD format? Is that the best option???

With what you said with your question, that’s what I have done for the same issue (pasting the motion settings and waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaiting). Seems like the easiest way!
