    Hey all,

This is my first time posting here and I’m looking for some help with a problem that no amount of googling has helped.

I’m working on a short film that involves clips shot on Red (3K RAW), C300 (1080p log, mpeg-2) and 5Dmk3 (1080p, “neutral”, mov). The cut has been locked and we’re ready for the grading process.

Thankfully Adobe updated Speedgrade with the Direct Link feature by the time we finished the lock, and I tried to use this to create a workflow for grading. It seemed simple enough, except that the C300 and the 5D files were not playing nicely with the software and I had virtually no control over shadows, midtones or highlights.

Another problem was that when I round-tripped the speedgrade session back to Premiere Pro, I couldn’t access the metadata from the r3d files – i.e. select a clip -> right click -> “source settings” was greyed out. My whole timeline had a long, red render bar over it (previously green to this excursion).

I’ve been told by some of my editor friends that the problem is I’m using three vastly different file types and thus confusing the software, but surely Adobe would have thought of that? Does anyone have any clue what I’m doing wrong? Or if this is a software problem?

Or is there simply a better way to go around this problem?

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
