Colorista Substitute.
Posted by Christopher Rotter on July 29, 2009 at 6:59 pmI recently watched a tutorial on how they color correct most Hollywood films. In the tutorial they suggest colorista for adjusting shadows\hightlights etc, they also suggest vigerette. My question is are there any tools within AE that come close to that of colorista and vigerette do ?

July 29, 2009 at 7:33 pmColorista is a plug-in for After Effects, by Red Giant software.
Color Finesse is a color correction/grading effect that comes bundled with AE. It can do pretty much everything Colorista does and more. But the beauty of Colorista is how streamlined and direct the UI is. So many people feel it’s faster and simpler to use. But you should be able to do the same in Color Finesse.

July 29, 2009 at 7:39 pmI came across that after posting. I thought color finesse was free ? It asks me for a serial # ? Is there a free version ? And is there any separate documentation for this program ?

July 29, 2009 at 7:53 pmThe bundled third party content (like Color Finesse) is only available when you buy the application. It doesn’t come with trial versions. You get the CF serial number in the AE (or suite) install disks, or when you buy the downloadable version. If you did purchase AE or Production Premium/Master collection already, and didn’t get a CF serial number with it, I suggest you call Adobe customer service:
