Okay, I’m not only getting dark footage, I’m getting light footage. I checked that Quicktime “Enable FCS color compatibility” radio button back in November. My guess is that it’s not the solution.

RIght now, I’m editing Apple ProRes 422 ftg in FCP and CCing in Color, exporting back in ProRes, too.
Both the Color grading window and the Final Cut canvas window are on a calibrated HD monitor.
Footage rendered in Color has the wrong gamma (BOTH high and low) in FCP. It depends on the clip. I have actually had footage interpreted correctly once I quit Final Cut and started it back up (what?). I even played around with the gamma settings in FCP’s User Prefs. But isn’t ProRes footage YUV anyway?

    So, what is going on?

Right now, everything is still coming into FCP dark. I am at a total loss.

[Ben Barnes] “Both the Color grading window and the Final Cut canvas window are on a calibrated HD monitor.”

[Ben Barnes] “So, what is going on?”

Do you mean a computer monitor? If so, that’s what’s going on. You must use a broadcast monitor connected to a capture card if you want to accurately see what your footage looks like.

Make sure your QuickTime export settings ProRes advanced tab says gamma correction “none”, that was was destroying my renders for a while…

It’s a separate, calibrated computer monitor. It’s what i have to work with.
I guess the curiosity is the interpretation between programs of the exact same footage. The grading window in color shows footage that is timed correctly, but when sent back to fcp, is off. Is there a gamma setting in Color rendering that i don’t know about?
