Hi, I have a short film sent from Avid, shot and captured HDV, rendered out as a single .mov and .avi, uncompressed and these both produce a small color shift compared to the same footage captured directly into FCP, slight more yellow on the avid footage…

I had to re-encode both files via compressor to use the YUV color space so they would play in FCP, which produced another color shift, this time a deal lighter than the original footage.

Does anyone have a solution to this rather disturbing problem?

My setup is FCP7 and I run a Kona LHi if that helps, I doubt it will though

    Thanks

    Jason

I’ve found that Avid exports in any codec other than DNxHD 10 bit will give some sort of gamma or black level shift. Either have them give you files in DNxHD 10 bit, or have them give you an EDL and the source tapes.

I have the source Avid MXF files, but it;s not clear if they are actually the clips they are working from, and when they captured from the tapes they captured as single 2gb streams regardles of where the shots end, rather than individual shots which has made a second injest seem unlikely to result in accurate results from an EDL, I shall ask for DNxHD then and see how we get on.

This project has been a bit of a mare and no mistake..

    Thanks for the heads up
