Color Management : DR to Premiere to Vimeo/Youtube –VS– DR to Vimeo/Youtube
Hey guys, I’ve recently been doing a lot of remote editing and color grading while traveling far abroad where I am limited to the obvious bad scenario of doing everything on my laptop. Please spare me the lectures about controlled environments and reference monitors. I know, and your advice over the years has helped me build a beautifully accurate color suite in my home. I need help to ensure “close enough” standards in this post.
Main Question: If I’m not going directly to web from Resolve, but have to go back in to Premiere Pro and THEN export for web, how should I tag my Resolve export?
Rec 709A, Rec709 (scene) or Rec709 2.4?
Why I’m Asking:
Over the summer I got a decked out 16″ MBP to do this work on. I didn’t realize until a few deliveries direct from Resolve outputs to Vimeo/Youtube that the P3 Retinas make things even more unpredictable than laptop work already was, but thanks to Dan at thepostprocess.com I learned some work arounds using Rec-709A tags.
For a few reasons which aren’t relevant, I occasionally need to output a grade from Resolve into Premiere Pro and then output from there for Vimeo/Youtube.

I meant to add, the H264 outputs from both Premiere and Resolve match online. It’s just frustrating because the material appears SO different when viewing in Premiere before export. There’s more trust in what’s behind the curtain than I’m comfortable with.
