    Hi,

    I have just completed a feature film in Final Cut Pro 6.06

    Now, we are ready to color correct. I have heard I should use “Apple” for color correction.

    My effects person wants to color correct in After Effects… where she is more comfortable working.

    If I export entire movie to After Effects;

    1. Will I lose quality?
    2. How exactly should I export?
    3. Should she learn Apple in FCP?
    4. Any thoughts, concerns, etc about my situation?
    5. Please provide any tips, tricks, codecs, filters I should use

    An utterly ridiculous and outdated concept.

    Unless you have Automatic Duck you will wind up with a single exported file with all shots connected and all transitions baked in. This means that anyone color correcting will have to take the time to find the head and tail of all cuts and fudge the color correction of all transitions. That is so 20th century.

    Should she learn the 3-Way Color Corrector in FCP immediately if she wants to be a professional.

    Meanwhile, learning Apple Color on your dime is not advisable.

    What is your final output going to be? I must say it is unusual to have an effects person grading a feature film. Are they and experienced grader with proper monitoring.

    I know that it is probably low budget but depending on how the film is going to be presented, I would recommend using a person who is an experienced grader who can take your FCP project and grade with Color at the least.
