    Hello all,
We are slowly making the transition back into the world of Avid from Final Cut Pro. One of the plugins my boss particularly loved in FCP was Magic Bullet Looks. I see there is no version available for Avid. I realize I can do much of the Color Correct in Avid just fine. However, I’m wondering if there is any kind of solution to fill a little bit of the void between Media Composer’s color correct tools and some of Magic Bullet Looks functionality. I know that there is a plugin for After Effects and I plan to use that when necessary.

I’m curious as to the best workflow for color correcting an Avid sequence in After Effects. I know the best way to bring the material in would be a quicktime reference. Of course then you have to cut up every scene into its own layer. Is the only other option to have each shot separated out in AE to use Automatic Duck? How do others work when color grading an Avid sequence in After Effects?

Or is there a plugin package similar to Magic Bullet Looks for Avid?

    Thanks for the advice-
    Chris

Magic Bullit Looks 1 works perfectly as advertised in MC 5.5… i use it everyday .

i think both of the support websites might say otherwise, but it definately works. Im on a Mac 10.6.8 and all is well.

Oh good to know. I have version 2.0 though, so I guess I might be out of luck then.

Yea im not sure because i just recently started using MC 5.5 at home full time again (always used it at work, and FCP at home) and in my magic bullit 1.0 installer, the Avid is an option to install. May have changed in 2.0, i just only really use the flicker and dust fx so i never felt the need to upgrade it.

Yes, you can install MBL1 into MC and it works, but it starts to get a bit dicey if you try to run MBL2 in the other apps and MBL1 in Media Composer. I did this and it sort of worked, but then I installed the Tiffen Dfx V3 package and there was a definite conflict. So best stick with MBL1 throughout or MBL2 and leave it out of Avid. FWIW, Sapphire, BCC and Dfx work very well inside MC, though.

If you want to go from Avid to AE, then it’s Automatic Duck or Boris AAF Transfer. You can also try to go AAF into Premiere Pro and then Dynamic Link or copy & paste from PPro to AE. The success and viability varies with the complexity of the effects and whether you used AMA or not. The latter affects the linking, meaning – whether AE is trying to link to Avid MXF files or to MOV files. Boris Transfer works well with AMA, AutoDuck works best with MXF files.

Of course, make sure you investigate the very good color grading mode of MC itself.
