  Color Changes when playhead stops

  I know this is rare, maybe not, so I’ll ask anyway.

  Our project is growing, we have 35 hours of full 2k footage, movie references, and tons of still images.
  ( I mention this because FCP seems to get problematic when your project gets too big)
  Just today after two weeks of working this is what is happening-
  When I play the sequence on the record side it plays fine, but when I stop on certain clips the color of the clip in the record monitor changes slightly. I discovered that these clips came up as limited.
  My question is- if the footage is the same why would some need to be rendered and other not?
