  • Collision Deformer result shows only in interactive render region :(

    Hi there!

I have a collision deformer in a plain object which is used for the floor. Collision deformer is doing its job on the plain object, but no matter what I try, the shadows/collisions made by the sliding objects only appear when I use the interactive render region. Rendering to picture viewer… those shadows/collisions all vanish.

I tried cacheing and re-cacheing the deformer, using simple materials, tested all the lights and sky individually, cranked up the light’s shadows, with and without AO, different settings of Anti-Alliasing… But no difference.

I’ll attach a picture of each.

    I’m in R20.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated..!
    Thanks!

I can’t recreate the issue in R19, 20 or 21. Could you upload the project file (or a simplified version that shows the issue) so that we could take a look at it?

Thanks Jim! While working out how to do that (I’m a complete knob, and those objects are alembic baked so I was thinking ‘do I need to build a new scene?’) I tried a few things and it seems to be an issue with the cache I had on the Collision Deformer! I emptied the cache, hit play, it was very slow but I rendered a frame, and the deformations were there!! ???? On the down side, it took lots of tweaking to get it looking ok. Ended up having to lower the “floor”, which resulted in the alembics floating way above it for the second half of the sim. I’m putting this one on the back burner for now. But thanks for replying!
