i am using a 1 gig powerbook with FCP3.0 OS X.2.8 – when i tried to add a funny .jpg file to my sequence i got this message

“codec not found. YOu may be using a compression type without the corresponding hardware card.”

i have never seen this – i have restarted (saw a ??? for a quick mmoment – everything seems to be ok

    1. do i need to turn my machine in?
    2. any tips to how to re-open that sequence successfully and not have to surrender my whold project????

    #14 Codec not Found

    Shane’s Stock Answer #14:

If you get a CODEC NOT FOUND missing hardware check ALL your images in Photoshop and make sure there are in a RGB color space NOT CYMK, LAB, OR GREYSCALE

    great – will do Shane

since i won’t be able to try this for another 6 hours or so…

question: i did notice that it was only after i added a CMYK image that this happened. will deleting this image from my logging bin SAVE my project? i am nervous that my whole sequence is gone.

    Thanks experts! Olivia

It will get rid of that message. Your project is fine…it is just that CMYK freaks out FCP.

    Hi Shane

here’s my report – i deleted the assumed CMYK file (and others that may cause this issue). I still receive the same message when i try to open the Sequence.

maybe i am repeating info, but i can’t seem to even get the Sequence to open to show me Missing Media – or which file

the sequence won’t even open – it “prepares video for viewing” and gets to only about 43% – t hen the message of CODEC not found, etc…….

And did you drop it in the sequence already, because just removing it from the browser doesn’t get rid of it always.

Try opening earlier versions from the autosave vault. Find one that doesn’t have the picture in the sequence.
