(!) Codec not found. Compression type w/o Card? HELP!
Okay, this is a real hair puller for me and I hope someone may have the magic answer.A couple of weeks ago I purchased a Sony EX1. I shot some clips in 1080P30.
Okay, that was a test and I moved on to work on the next performance.I created a new project and in EASY SET UP chose DV/NTSC Anamorphic.
I went the the sequence and made sure it was also set up for DV.
I changed scratch disks to the new folders I created for this project.
I digitized several hours worth of footage from a multi camera shoot ALL of it shot on Panny DVX100A set for SQUEEZE – 30P.I started to edit and tried to render out the time line and got the following error message:

(!) Codec not found. You may be using a compression
type without the corresponding hardware card.
_______________________________________________HUH? THIS IS A DV PROJECT using DV FOOTAGE. My guess is that FCP has somehow locked into the EX1 format and cannot be switched to anything else.
I have thrown away preferences in library, started new projects, etc. etc. etc.
The same damn message keeps coming up every time I try to render it, export it or print it to video.HELP!!!!!!!!

Do you have any stills in this timeline? Any at all? Because this is the typical cause:

If you get a CODEC NOT FOUND missing hardware check ALL your images in Photoshop and make sure there are in a RGB color space NOT CYMK, LAB, OR GREYSCALE

No. The only “still” is a freeze frame of HDV footage created in Final Cut.

Have you checked your sequence settings? Are they still in XDCAM EX from the last job, by any chance?
If the sequence was created before the easy setup was selected, it would have not changed – settings only take effect on sequences created subsequently.

No, I have made sure the sequence is set for DV. I have even created another whole new project set for DV anamorphic and copy and pasted the sequence into that. I have trashed FCP preference panes, etc. in library. Final Cut just can’t seem to forget the past.
Does anyone know how to use terminal to terminate hidden settings?

Hmm, maybe Final Cut just can’t accept that is not installed and has this thing stuck in its craw. Good thinking though Rafael. I guess I need to find it and get it in there.
I kinda thought I had it installed when I used the EX disc that came with the camera, but maybe not.This might work, but I have to wait until tomorrow to get the disc from work.

Hi Jacques,
The EX-1 uses a “proxy” system, so you may be seeing the image without having the codec. Off course this don’t allows you exporting.
You need at least FC 6.0.2 to get the XDCAM codecs installed.
