(!) Codec not found. Compression type w/o Card? HELP!

Thanks for the response. Just so you know, the project that cannot export, print to video or render a timeline is DV anamorphic. So is the sequence.

I am using version 6.0.4, which does have EX1 codecs,
SO is it possible that it needs an additional codec installed to work?
This seems silly as FINAL CUT has the ability to render out almost any video format.

Or is this a BUG that is biting me? Anyone from Apple’s team with the answer around here?

No problem here working with EX-1 footage in HD or SD. Try changing the sequence codec.

What else is in your project (i.e. what other media)? Have you tried deleting you render files?

Well, I went and downloaded the XDCAM stuff for Mac and re-installed everything.
I worked on XDCAM footage (the old test project I first started out) and got it to work.
I went back to Final Cut and the DV project. ALL IS NOW WORKING!!! I guess there was a
missing file that Final Cut wanted OR ELSE. Well, FCP now has it and all seems to be normal.

If you just dragged the files from a SXS Card directly into FCP they will not work.
The EX camera needs to have either the L&T plug in from Sony or you need to use the Sony XDcam Transfer tool

Note to that the EX camera does not shoot any SD formats.

FYI lastly – Apple does not EVER chime in here

This exact same message/error just happened to me. What is very odd is that I have a ton of still sin the sequence, all of which are CMYK, it was rendering fine (ProRes) yesterday and now it wont. It is also very odd because it is only the first image of the sequence it is having problems with. If I set the ins and outs to another image down the road it handles it just fine.

Every image but the first one it has decided it likes.

What is a bummer is that if I convert it to RGB the color dies big time and doesn’t even look close to the rest of the sequence. Even if I wanted to I wouldn’t the CMYK version has so much more life to it.

Although when I view the RGB and CMYK version in preview they both look the same dull boring washed out CMYK look you would expect.

I must figure this one out. Thanks for leading me to the right problem Shane.

My Codec Not Found error is still persisting. The top video track has some HDV clips. If I take those out then the timelime will render fine. This is truly annoying as it has to be a corrupt file someplace.
I have redigitized the clips, but to no avail. QT conversion seems to work, but at the end of the render the Codec Not Found dialog error box pops up.

I don’t think it is a corrupt file on your end. I think it is a correct system/preferences file.

I am still searching for it. My FCP renders the exact same “problem” image” in other parts of the sevuence without any problem whatsoever. I am going to go and open up and older version of this project and see if that works.

Ok, I figured my problem out. For some reason the “handed off” project contained CMYK JPG and CMYK TFF of the same slides buried in this mess and myriad of folders. Everything else in my sequence is the CMYK TFF. My problem is with the CMYK JPG, which thankfully I overlooked and did not have anywhere else in the file. I brought it into a new timeline and ended up clicking on the Jpeg (problem file) and wallah it opened up into a whole new layered image in FCP, like a nested sequence only a Jpeg, that’s right a friggin layered Jpeg! Now THAT would explain a few things. I tried opening this “layered jpeg” in Photoshop but it said it couldn’t recognize it. That is, until I changed the extension back to .psd only then would it want to recognize it!

So some wise guy decided, brilliantly I must say, that all you needed to do to make a .jpg out of a layered .psd was to just rename the file and that made it SO! What a genius he/she was, I bet that just made his/her day!!!

One thing not mentioned though is that before you delete any file on your computer, just make a copy and add “.bak” to the end of it. You will be very happy you did and you can always delete them later.
