Codec issue??
I imported video footage from my Canon 7D with the eos import software it comes with and put it in FCP.
I am making a stop motion from video footage so I go through frame by frame and pick out the ones I want put all of those frames together and export them as a NTSC QT movie using quicktime conversion.
Reimport the QT play it in the time line and everything works perfectly!!!
Until….
I try to change the speed of the clip or put an effect on it or do anything that requires it to render.
than it gives me a general error io or it says codec error. but im working with an NTSC QT not the raw footage out of the 7D

How could we possibly know if it’s a codec issue, that’s the piece of information you simply never mentioned. You imported via eos import as a .move file, but with which video codec?
There are many different types of .mov files, all that tells us is that you’ve created a Quicktime. Are they ProRes 422, ProRes HQ, AIC, etc, etc, etc???

Nope! Look in the FCP browser in the “compressor” column. Each clip will have an entry in that column. This is essential stuff for FCP editing, gotta get on top of this…

You used log and transfer?
Your workflow is messed up.
Install the eos fcp plugin
Then use log and transfer -

H.264 should never be edited raw in FCP.

Granted you’ve already start shooting, so it’s probably a little to modify your production workflow, but I’d highly recommend using animation specific software for your stop-motion piece.
Dragon Stop Motion is not terribly expensive https://www.dragonstopmotion.com/
Robot Chicken among other great stop motion productions use it. What’s nice about it also, is that will kick out your stills as quicktimes (and it will compensate whether you shot at 1s or 2s), plus you’ll still have access the raw images, in the event that you want to, say, bring the image sequences into After Effects for zooms, or rig removal.
