i have an uncompressed AVI file that i exported from After Effects, and i now would like to compress this file through premiere. I will be distributing the file via the web. File size is definitely an issue, but i do not mind the file being somewhat big. By “somewhat big” i mean that the uncompressed file is around 8 gigs (a 5 min video at 640×480) so Im hoping tte compressed file will be somewhere around 80MB to 100MB (if possible(. I have tried DIVX and some of the other codecs but was unhappy with my results (ie the video quality.. i achieved the file size but the video was too blurry).

Does anyone have any recommendations in codes and settings to use or can someone point me to a resource on the web that discusses these issues in detail.

    Thanks so much,

    Vikas

Compressing video at too high of a bitrate can be counter productive. Try Windows Media Video 9 at 1.5 mbps, full resolution (720×480) 30 fps, 2 pass VBR constrained.
5 minutes should be about 50 MB.
