Anyone know how Mekanism did their clouds in the Rock the vote spot up on Apples Motion page? I think they use a PNG of a hand drawn cloud. I have been trying to re-create this (just to see if I could) for two nights now with no luck.

Possibly a pre rendered 2D animation done in another program.

    Hey Rich,

I don’t know what method those clever folks at Mekanism used, but a few particle emitters and some filters can create a similar look. It does get pretty render-intensive, though, so you would probably want to do some pre-rendering. There’s a project called ‘clouds’ that shows it, here: https://homepage.mac.com/specialcase/FileSharing8.html

    Good luck!

What particle emitter did you copy for it Specialcase?

    Hey Rich,

I didn’t copy any particle emitter. If you download the project and look at the emitter, I just drew a circle shape, made it into particles, set the emitter type to line, then put an attractor behavior on the emitter so that the particles would fall back into the emitter, limiting the cloud’s size. Follow that with the Edge Work filter, dupe it a couple times…and there you have it. It could definitely use some tweaking, but I think it’s in the right direction.

Thanks, I actually posted that last one prematurely. I took another look and figured it out. Great job!
