I have been reading up on greenscreens and they say you should be 6-8 feet away and it should be lit separately. Now, after seeing Andrew Kramer’s awesome preview video for his DVD, it shows two people getting blown up on a greenscreen that is neither :
    1) lit by more than just normal room light (that is what is seems like)
    2) the actors are not even close to 6-8 feet away – in fact they are standing on the greenscreen!!

How is this done? Whenever I try to put an actor in front of a greenscreen, my keys never come out as good as what he has done, is there another secret I am missing?

[mandyy] “is there another secret I am missing?”

Probably Keylight and the manual that comes with it 🙂

That, and the clever choice of wardrobe. Black by itself is easy to key on a green background, for two reasons:

    1. black doesn’t suffer too much from a green spill (unless it’s a glossy material)

    2. black on a green background results in high contrast in the green channel, allowing for a decent key.

If you need your cast to wear white shirts, you’d be best off keeping them as far away from the green background as possible – since white easily takes on the color of that background due to the reflection.
