Spoke to B&H photo about getting a black magic card. They gave me an option between a.

Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro HDMI and Analog Editing Card w/ Breakout Cable.

    – This will work with the deck that we have, but will not send timecode.

    &

    Blackmagic Design DeckLink HD Extreme

    -This will send timecode.

The intensity pro is closer to our budget. The reason we need a card is we will be sending out Beta sp tapes to broadcast networks and satellite distributors. The tape will include a television show (720×486) with closed captioning. I’m trying to figure out if the extra money is necessary. We’re a small production company, and some features of the HD extreme are overkill for our needs.

    P.S. Our deck

    Sony BETACAM SP #UVW-1800

    Hi,

You’re better off with the DeckLink Studio card for US$695 RRP if you can stretch your budget a bit more. For output to a BetaSP deck to broadcast networks, you really want something with RS422 deck control for frame accurate layback to tape.
