  • “Close media files” option not working. PSD and Vegas

I have to exit Vegas before I can edit/save a psd file in photoshop that is in my Vegas timeline. Photoshop gives me a “file in use” error. I thought the Preference-General “close media files when not active application” was supposed to take care of this. It brings about no change.

Is this a bug? Am I doing something wrong? This is the Vegas Pro 12 and CS5.5

    Thank you for your time.

I am using Vegas 12 Build 770 and Photoshop CS6. Although I am using a Tif rather than a PSD, Photoshop opens and saves an updated file without any complaint. That is true even if Vegas is keeping the file open (I do have a problem seeing an updated image if Vegas keeps the file open). When Vegas is set to close the file when not active, I see the updated image immediately when I return to Vegas. My guess is that a PSD and a Tif will behave in identical ways. I no longer use PSDs since I see no advantage of a PSD over a Tif, and Windows Explorer will not show me a thumbnail of a PSD file. It will show me a thumbnail for everything else such as Tifs or Jpegs.

Thanks for the info, Bob and Steve. I guess we wait for an update. I have written to SCS technical support.

I am using layered PSD files and I cannot get a tif file to spread out as layers across tracks.

In the meantime – a sort of workaround. Use the “Open In Graphic Editor” script from https://sony.vegas.1.free.fr/ assigned to a keyboard shortcut. In the settings for the script choose “open as copy and save as take”
