Using the clone too I’m noticing random occurrences of extremely long redraw times. I’m talking close to a minute. Other times, it’s almost instantaneous. I understand that After Effects caches images, but often I can’t even go back one frame and do a comparison without an insanely long redraw. Is there a strategy to minimize this?

    AE 6.5
    DP 1.8
    1.5 gb ram

Two things I use to speed things up is reducing the length of your layer by splitting your layer up into seperate shots, or smaller clips etc. and painting/cloning those.
The other thing is to do a PURGE ALL every few minutes.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi Steve

Thanks for the response. The problem seems to come and go without rhyme or reason, but dividing the clips does seems to help. It’s odd that system becomes unsresponsive for a time AFTER I see the changes. I’ve tried purge all, but haven’t noticed any improvement. Apparently the clone tool is just super processor-intense. The paint tool works much faster.
