clipwrap alternative for windows?
Posted by Yair Bartal on March 30, 2015 at 4:59 pmLooking for alternative for clipwrap that works on windows for rewraping AVCHD files.
I’ve found only transcoding software.I’d appreciate any info.

but is the intent to use clip wrap and then to import to PPro?
thanks…

March 30, 2015 at 10:33 pmWrapping the files, although convenient at the OS level may not provide the best experience for PPro (even if you could find it).
PPro looks at the extension of the file to determine the technology pathway to decode the file.
QT under windows is still essentially a 32 bit pathway. So it’s not the fastest available.
so you may actually be hindering performance and making Premiere force the stream thru a slower pipe.
so that may be one reason not to do that….
not trying to confuse ya…but just trying to offer a path that might give you a better result.

March 31, 2015 at 4:07 amThank you Alex for your response, I wasn’t aware of that.
So if I transcode instead, what would be the recommended container/codec to use for windows? -

March 31, 2015 at 5:36 pmIs there a workflow reason you’d transcode?
or is it that you are looking for a performance benefit?

March 31, 2015 at 5:50 pmWell, we’re members of a communication center sharing a video camera and each member takes the camera for a mission.
It’s more convenient for us to share the SD card in camera so that everyone just copies his files.
With AVCHD it’s not recommended to copy the mts files, but to copy the whole card for each member.
That’s a lot of redundant work and waste of storage. -

March 31, 2015 at 7:03 pmOK….
so you may want to look at going thru Prelude. this will let you browse pick and choose what you want to pull off the card.
and while a number of codecs would probably work….how about giving the new GoPro Cineform codec a whirl?

March 31, 2015 at 7:11 pmwell, I knew about the Prelude option, but tried to find a solution without the need for it.
Thanks anyway. -
