I am working on a project using LogC footage with the Alexa LogC->rec709 Lut on the output. I did a first pass on the grade and rendered out VFX plates with the LUT and grade burned in. I now want to bring the VFX back in without doubling up the conversion Lut on the VFX shots.

I considered using groups to append a node after the grade with the conversion Lut to all the non VFX clips and then then turning off the output Lut, but according to the manual, groups don’t play nice when the clips have different numbers of nodes (which mine do) and it seems other users run into problems with this method.

I’m assuming there is no way to make the output LUT not apply to certain clips or tracks? Maybe I could make an inverted Alexa Lut, but I’m not sure if the math on that would work nicely…

I know I could just use a log VFX workflow, but I really would rather not if there is a solution to this that doesn’t involve appending nodes by hand to every non VFX shot.
