Clip stretched vertically in FCP after Compressor work
Hi,
Ripped a short DVD clip with Handbrake (resulting dimensions were 850×360) Used Compressor to convert to ProRes LT (even at 100% of source on the dimensions, the result was 718×360).Then I brought the clip into Final Cut 7 and it was stretched vertically. Only way I could correct it was to move the aspect ration tab under distort in the viewer, and even then is was very manual, trying to get it to look right.
Seems the issue is the listed dimensions after using Compressor, but not sure. Thought I’d ask in the event anyone knew what might be causing this.

I was writing a long post trying to help you to fix the issue (something about “real size’ and “display size”, and Pixels aspect: You started with a DVD so 720×576/486/480 pixels PAL or NTSC Anamorphic or not.
Then you get 850×360 and we get off-specs. What kind of pixels may us have now?
No idea.
Then you go to Compressor and you export at 100%, but, which kind of pixels?Finding where the mistake is interesting because is the way to avoid it again.
Even if you fix your vertical-stretching issue, your workflow degrades too much the original picture.
I suggest you a workflow much faster and that will extract and keep the full quality and size/aspect of the DVD movie.
Use MPGStreamclip. Import the VOB and chose “Export to QT”.
Chose a good codec and keep the rest of he setting as the original MPEG-2.

No go. Mpegstreamclip didn’t open anything off the DVD. There was a video TS VOB file, and a scattered bunch of other VOB files (these showed an error when opening). When opening the TS VOB file, there was nothing there but black.So, not sure if Streamclip only opens certain DVD’s or what, but coudn’t find any way to open anything from the DVD…

Then the DVD may have some protection.

There is only one kind of DVD compliant MPEG-2.
