  • Clip names vanish in FCP timeline

Posted by David Jakubovic on June 2, 2011 at 1:12 pm

I’m cutting a show and every once in a while I email the project to the director who reviews the timeline on his FCP, on another computer.

Then when he sends it back, there are no clip names in the timeline. This might be so banal and so simple but for the life of me I can’t find the setting, and I’ve researched too! Anyone?? Is there a setting that would make clip names go on and off in the timeline or is it some bug? If I turn on thumbnails only it shows the thumbnails, if I set it to thumbnails+names it still shows only the thumbnails.

    Thank you,
    David

No setting I know of would cause this permanently… so it’s not that.

Sounds to me like the project file is getting corrupted, or isn’t from the exact same versions? of FCP 7?

Yeah they’re both FCP 7 – it’s so weird – the project works just fine when it comes back from him, it just doesn’t have the clip names. Also, if a project originates on his computer and he then passes it on to me it’s the same thing.

I meant are both 7.0.3? This was reported about a week ago here I think too… Bet there’s a bug between certain versions of FCP, and/or certain CPU’s, OR someone needs to perform a clean install…

Is it just in your timeline? or across your project….?

    The timeline has options:

User prefs –> timline options –> Thumbnail display –> (drop down menu) options are: Name, Name plus thumbnail, Filmstrip

It’s on all timelines that have been opened on his computer.

Yeah I did change that setting but it doesn’t do anything. No names anywhere!
