Clicking in MP3 files in FCP 6.0
Posted by Jared Smith on October 25, 2010 at 2:25 amHey guys,
I cannot get a better version than MP3 in time for a premiere on Friday. Is there any way to get the clicking noise out of the track or is that just the disadvantage of dealing with such a low quality file?

October 25, 2010 at 2:29 amSure you can, just transcode using iTunes or something else.

October 25, 2010 at 2:30 amthe song was imported from itunes and is doing it??? should i transcode it as a wav and pull that file into fcp instead? i know it won’t heighten the quality but will it get rid of the click?

October 25, 2010 at 2:32 ami’m having the exact same problem. the audio sounds ‘clippy’; sometimes. I tried using a low pass filter and I think it sort of helped but yeah… do I need to be using wav files instead of mp3s? And what does the guy below mean by transcode?

October 25, 2010 at 2:38 amIt will keep it from clicking if you can transcode a with iTunes protection. I’m not sure if that works or not. Aiff is better than WAV, but bot are better than MP3.

October 25, 2010 at 4:11 amFind the track in the Finder. Open it in QT7 Pro. Export as AIFF. Use that.

October 25, 2010 at 4:32 amTranscode means convert from one codec to another. In this case an mp3 should be converted to a aif file @ 48khz sample rate. FCP is really only happy with uncompressed audio (aif or wav) and 48khz sample rate.
There are various ways to convert – itunes, Compressor or quicktime pro are a few options built into your system
