cleaning the audio in Vegas
Posted by Philippe Orlando on January 8, 2009 at 8:59 pmHello,
I need to remove some hiss and hums on the audio track, I work with Vegas 7, and I was wondering if it’s better to try to play with the Track Equalizer within Vegas or if somebody knows of good plugs in or stand alone software?
I’ve heard people talk about Soundsoap?
Any other options?
Thank you

January 8, 2009 at 10:32 pmSony’s own Sony noise reduction plugin will do the trick.

January 8, 2009 at 10:35 pmSoundSoap 2 does a great job on this kind of noise. Of course, start with the Equalizer because it’s free. There are also tools like iZotope Rx that are incredibly good in these situations but they are a lot more expensive.

January 8, 2009 at 10:43 pmThanks a lot for your two answer.
I’ve checked Sony Noise Reduction and I need to ask, are you sure there’s a tool/option to remove hums and hisses?Soundsoap sounds great since it’s more than twice as cheap as Sony Noise Reduction.
What do you think about Sound Forge 9? Overkill for what I need?

January 8, 2009 at 10:51 pmSoundForge 9 is primarily an editor but it does come with some audio restoration tools and it also comes with Sony Noise Reduction plug-in so it’s a great way to get an audio editor and the noise reduction together.

January 8, 2009 at 11:23 pmEither Soundsoap or Sony Noise reduction…Any of the two
would be just as good. You can read up on both and then make

January 9, 2009 at 2:02 amI’ve noticed that there is a Soundsoad that costs $99 and one that costs $450. Which one are we talking about here?

January 9, 2009 at 3:21 amOne is for entry level users, the other is the professional
version with far more advanced features. So if costs is the
concern and you want the best version then sony noise
reduction is the best option for around $280 instead of the
$450 for soundsoap.Steve Rhoden

January 10, 2009 at 12:01 amActually, since I’m using Vegas it’s probably better to stick to Sony Noise Reduction, maybe actually get Sound Forge since it also contains Sony Noise Reduction
Thanks for your help

I was referring to the $99 version. It does a great job for the price and it’s dead simple to use.
