Clean low light on the Big Screen – devil’s due movie
I’m just wondering how the ex3 which was used on a recent feature “devil’s due” had absolutely clean blacks with no obvious noise or artifacts. Is it because of heavy post processing? 10bit out recording? How is it being accomplished?

Probably they are recording completely uncompressed video off the camera using something like the Convergent Design Nano kit. The camera encoder is bypassed and they can get a raw signal into some recorders.

Thanks for the answer. I just read about the discontinued nano which in the description it states “nanoFlash utilizes the very high-quality Sony XDCAM 422 CODEC, recording the video/audio onto affordable and readily available Compact Flash Media, at up to 160Mbps (Long-GOP) or 220 Mbps (I-Frame)”
I just did not see much of a difference between recording compressed on a nano vs say a samurai which does pro-res and DNXHD at 10bit 4:2:2. I actually just bought the Samurai and did some tests, the noise level is actually way lower than the 8bit XDcam.
