Clean Install FCP 6.0.5 – what about existing FCP??
Posted by Stu Aull on April 23, 2009 at 2:22 amHello all-
just been recommended I should update to FCP 6.0.5 but some bugs in current 6.0.4 suggest I should do a clean install off FCStudio Disc.Q: do I/can I need to “uninstall” existing FCP 6.0.4 first?
or
manually delete it (and what else??)
or
will clean install automatically overwrite existing FCP?Thanks

Your best bet is of course a clean install from the ground up, including the OS.
Next, comes getting FCP Remover from Digital Rebellion — use that to uninstall — then make sure to fix permissions — then reinstall the suite.
Finally, the worst concept would be to install over the top of the old suite.
BTW, please say hi to Mrs. Palin for me, and be sure to wave to our friends over in Russia while you’re at it. Okay???

If you do a clean install from the ground up Including the OS, then you would not need to use the FCP Remover app because the clean install of the OS would completely erase the hard drive when you do it.
Erase and install, it is much cleaner then an archive and install.

April 23, 2009 at 4:30 amUnderstood Zane, thank you-
my “bug” issue – if that’s what it really was – was my Industrial Noise “FX Factory” FX plug-ins disappeared when installing other noise products. NI techs suggested a bug may have caused this and to re-install FCP before re-installing their FX plug ins…Will try the Delete FCP app first and see what happens…

I think you misinterpreted — I was not giving Stu a three step process, but rather three completely different possibilities, in order of preference. It’s seems pretty obvious that one would not have to use FCP Remover if performing a total wipe of the hard drive.
