clarification: FCP unable to intialize “deck” (Sony HVR-A1U hdv cam)
I just purchased a MacPro. For some reason, FCP doesn’t recognize my camera, which I’m using to import footage. My configuration: FW 800 out of LaCie 250 GB drive into FW 800 port on front of MacPro. FW 400 from LaCie to FW port on camera.
I have been using this sequence:
computer on
LaCie on
CAMERA on
open FCPAny suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Is your camera set to play out HDV via Firewire? On my Sony HDV deck it defaults to Down Convert so FCP will see a DV signal, not HDV. There’s a menu setting to change that, I think it’s in the iLink setting.

I would split your firewire sources to different busses. You should get a fw800 PCIe card and put your drive on that while keeping the deck on the internal bus of the mac.
As a test try removing the lacie from the equation and see if your deck will be recognized.
