Hi I am having a little problem with cineons in AE. If anyone has time please try this out and correct me if I’m wrong.

Import a cineon file into a 32 bit, Working Space: None, Project:

    https://www.kodak.com/US/en/motion/support/digitallad.jhtml?id=0.1.4.15.8.8&lc=en

Create a comp from the file.
Apply the cineon converter effect, set highlight rolloff to 0.
Apply another instance of the cineon converter effect and this time set it to lin to log.
So now you’ve roundtripped a cineon in AE.
    But
If I want to confirm that the cineon is unchanged, I drag the original image on top of the roundtripped image and set it’s transfer mode to difference. It is black, as it should be. However if I crank the exposure control in the comp viewer window up to 20 or so, there is a clear difference between the roudtripped image and the original.

I assume this is because the round tripped image is being processed in 32 bits. If I render out the roundtripped image and import the rendered image it is identical to the original image. But that is not so useful to me because I want to confirm unequivocably before I render that the cineon plates are unchanged.
Maybe an effect that downsamples from float to 16 bit as the last calculation made before rendering (ala shake bytes)?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
