Cinema Tools Video TC after ALE import
Hi folks,
We’re working on a 35mm feature that we’ll be cutting in FCP and are wondering if any of you have encountered the following problem when importing the ALE files from the lab.
The project is 35mm 3perf, 24fps Video TC, 24fps Audio TC and 24fps telecine speed. The new CT database reflects those settings. But when we try to import the ALE, all the video TC fields revert to 30fps. We have to manually correct this for every event, every time.
The ALE files’ headers seem ok. Here is an example (mind you, the tabs cannot be reproduced accurately in this post):

FILM_FORMAT 35mm (3 perf)Is there a column in the ALE file that is missing and that should reflect the 24fps VTC? We’re a little stumped.
Any suggestions are welcome…

How are you getting your footage? On a tape format?
My CT databases for 35mm 3 perf always note the TK speed as 24 but both the Video TC Rate and Audio TC Rate is 30 NDF. You’ll note that the Video Timecode always starts on an A-Frame and the Duration only ends on a 0, 5. 10. 15. 20, 25 frame.

Hey Daryl,
Our dailies are TK’ed straight to a DDR and converted to ProRes 1080. Editorial gets a disk with quicktimes for every slate. The database is simply created and connected with those clips.
Our workflow is therefore pure 24. There is no pulldown involved at all and our TC is pure 24.
