Hey guys, got a DSR-50 deck here, a ton of DVCAM offline telecinied tapes and my ALE files. Film shot on 35mm, S35mm transfer @ 24fps, latest version of FCP and CT, the goal is a film out for theaters. Couple quick questions:

    1. I’m almost positive the film was 4 perf, but should I have my Video TC Rate and Sound TC rate set for 30 NDF or DF (the sound was already put in sync by the telecine guy)?

    2. I plan to export a batch capture list using XML to have more information attached to each file captured in FCP. Is there really any benefit to this or should I just stick with a standard batch capture list and skip my XML plan?

    3. The manual never really explains the benefits of reverse telecine at 24fps vs 23.98. My instinct is to reverse telecine to 24, does that sound right?

    Thanks,

    Bryan

    1. You can check the video TC against the burn in. If the count skips two counts at any minute except even 10 minute, it’s drop frame.

For sound TC, you should check with the sound man. Are there sound logs? Are you using the sound off the videotape? You should find out the specs for the original sound and decide which you will use for sound editing. If you are going to conform the original sound to your cut, then you need to make sure sound TC is correct in Cinema Tools

    2. There’s already a pathway between Cinema Tools and Final Cut, and your normal batch list should be complete.

    3. The use of 24 or 23.98 depends on sound. If you are syncing yourself, and you want to bring sound in without changing it’s speed, then you reverse telecine to 24, which removes extra fields AND speeds up the picture by .1%. If you are already in sync, then you probably will use 23.98 because it makes video play to an external monitor better, and it makes video dubs easier.
