cineform playback
Posted by Kevin Christopher on August 12, 2006 at 4:24 amTo all,
I have been recently contacted by a client who wishes to bring his rough edited sequences to me done with a cineform codec, and have me make HD-CAM masters and Digi betas. Is there a way for me to output this with my LH? can premiere pro handle these files already? After efects can. Will I need to render?
I know these sound basic, but I work in uncompressed land.Kevin

August 13, 2006 at 2:51 amHi Kevin,
The main issue appears to be that the AJA LH PPro drivers and the CineForm-installed (also AJA) LH drivers don’t like to exist together.
I’ve had to uninstall the LH drivers and reinstall everything BUT the PPro component (with the PPro AJA project presets) and that seems to work.
…I’m hoping we can get that one handled as it’s a little annoying to need to do driver uninstall/reinstalls every time I switch projects.
…I’m assuming you have Prospect HD to run the output?

Nope that what I was trying to avoid. The person cut it on vegas with aspect and wants HD-Cam masters. That I can facilitate within his budget, but not if I have to buy Prospect. I may just buy Aspect, and transcode it over night or somthing.

August 14, 2006 at 3:08 amAspect only supports 8 bit color and 1440×1080 framesize (for HDV).
That can be a significant hit when your source is 10 bit 1920×1080.
Maybe you could simply download the 15 day free trial of Prospect…

August 14, 2006 at 4:48 amHe already used connect HD and vegas to rough edit from an HDV source, so thats all he will have when he comes in. I may try to download Prospect just in case, but I think this may take longer there may be 13 shows.

OOHHHHH….for some reason I was thinking it was full HD stuff…maybe the HDcam mastering got me thinking in that direction…
Aspect has a free trial as well…but you’d have some renders to do to get it out the card HDSDI to the deck of course.

August 17, 2006 at 10:36 amThat is true, but when you are monkeying with color and other effects you need the 10 bit range to keep the math from falling appart. It is especially noticable when changing the gama curve.
