I’m editing 5k ProRes 4444 footage in Adobe Premiere CC and no matter what I do playback is choppy. I have a pretty good system, a base level 2013 Mac Pro:

    Quad-Core Intel Xeon E5 (3.7 Ghz)
    Duel AMD FirePro D300
    14GB Ram

And my footage is stored on a 7200RPM HDD connected to my Mac through Thunderbolt 2.

Can anyone tell me what part of my system is having a hard time with these files?

The HDD is the bottleneck. To edit 5k prores you will need a fast tb raid.

Yep. One disk just won’t cut it.

Set your program monitor to 1/4 resolution.

Even if I set it to 1/16 it plays back badly. It must be the Raid situation. Thanks guys!
