Choppy Playback on Mac Pro Dual Quad Core with 64 GB of RAM??? Ugghhhh…
Hi Everyone,
I’ve learned so much from visiting this site and I really appreciate having access to such a vast amount of knowledge! So… now I really need some help. I’m soooooo frustrated.
I have the SIMPLEST sequence running…
(1) 20 minute NTSC DVD Widescreen layer (.mov)
(1) 8 second NTSC DVD Widescreen animation layer (.mov)
(1) 20 minute audio file (.wav from Pro Tools HD)When it gets to the short animated sequence, it becomes all choppy and out of sync. Afterwards, it continues to play all screwy before locking back in eventually.

I’ve tried numerous memory settings, all the way up to 61 gigs dedicated to CS5. This is driving me crazy!!!
Any ideas?

My first question would be where that animation is actually located…is it on the system drive? Is all the media on the system drive?
(I don’t see a description of your media storage)
24 GB allocated should be plenty for PPro…this sounds like some other gremlin.
Can you give a more detailed description of where the media came from, what codec it’s in (…you say “DVD”, but does that mean it’s a VOD file ripped from a DVD? Is it uncompressed footage at DVD framesize?) Need more info here…

Thank you for getting back to me on this one. I’ve been so swamped that I haven’t been on here in a small lifetime!
Storage is probably the culprit. All the media is, in fact, running off the system drive…
Sorry for the confusion with the file types. The files are all NTSC Widescreeen .mov files.
