hey guys so ive been working on an edit in fcp 6.0.6 and once i was finished with the edit i was taking each shot into after effects cs3 and grading it and doing other effects to each shot there. The process was that i was exporting a quicktime reference movie of each shot and working with that in after effects and then exporting a quicktime movie of the same codec (xdcam ex 108030p)and puting it back into fcp . It plays fine in the standalone quicktime player but once in fcp it wont play smoothly at all… it shutters, stops, freezes on a frame and more… the specs are exactly the same as the sequence and the orig clips, so i cant figure it out… any help at all would be great..

i apologize if this is a common issue but i couldn’t find anything in the forums..

Oh did you mean you convert it to animation before AE or out of AE?

Convert before going in AE, render out to an uncompressed format out of AE. And yes, you will have FCP re compress the final, but that’s the workflow for best results.

is there an easy way to capture xdcam ex (ex1/3) footage in proRes? i was just looking in the xdcam transfer utility and it doesn’t seem like there is a way to change codec while importing. Can you do this in the log and transfer?? or is it something ill have to batch re-render in mpeg streamclip or compressor??
