Doing a new project for Staten Island and I need a train with 1 engine and 5 cars that goes along a winding track.

I’ve used PathDeformerLite, but instead of the train “snaking” I want it to respond to the joint connections between cars, with a rotating limit of something like 35 degrees or whatever. Basically it snakes, but with more rigid joints if needed.

Is this a bones thing? And if so, how do I rig that? I barely understand bones/MOCCA (running C4D 9.0) so assume I know only the language, but not the proper way to set it up.

Also, can I still use PDL? I dont mind having to position the train and its cars, but i love just changing offset.

thanks (and sorry if this is already somewhere, it’s really hard searching for “train”)

Please have a look at the Cineversity-Tutorials -Articulation of trailer and truck-
Hope this can be applied for your train-carriage-set-up as well.

this is definitely what i am looking for, but i’m using version 9 and dont know where to find the character or constraint tags. is this a new feature in 10 or do they exist somewhere in 9?

otherwise, yeah, this is exactly what i’m trying to do.
