I was wondering if anyone has tried to use chinese character symbols as a preset brush. I have a home project that I would like to use a few symbols on. I could also stand to know which of the myraid chinese fonts are the best to down load for use in photoshop. I have ps 7 on both mac and pc. thanks jm

    hi john,

did i get you right, you want to define your own brush?

    – select the desired part of your image with the marque tool (you can also crop it)
    – copy “Ctrl+C” the area
    – open a new document “Ctr+N”
    – paste the selection into it “Ctrl+V”
    – choose “edit” “define pattern” or “define brush”
    – choose a name

mention that you cant use the brush in a bigger size as you created, without scaling.

hope thats what your looking for, greetz

thanks I worked through it, and I was using the wrong term, I wanted to define custom shape. I wound up using the pen tool to trace the calligraphy, created a vector mask from the current path then the option to define custom shape was made available. In the future I’ll try to be less vague
