May 11, 2005 at 2:23 amHi Jim –
Even though I live to disagree with Walter, he is absolutely correct about the J3. If you have the J3, it does every damn SD format you want – Digi Beta Beta SX and regular Beta SP, and then you don’t need the AJA I/O LA. It is a great investment.Bob Zelin

Well, we HAVE to agree from time to time, right? 🙂
The J3’s been such a great workhorse I’m looking at the JH3 right now which is the HDCAM version of the player.

May 11, 2005 at 9:22 pmThe Tascam DM24 digital mixer, now that’s a nice board!
OK, since I’m in the same audio boat, needing to do the A to D conversion, and not liking my Mackie board that I have now, is there another board like the Tascam DM24 but maybe doesn’t have all the Gingerbread on it?
Thanks,
Tim

May 12, 2005 at 3:05 amYes, I’ve been very, very happy with the DM24. There are lower-cost solutions without all the bells and whistles (Oh c’mon, everyone needs 5.1 surround support!). I know Yamaha makes some that would fit the description you’re looking for. I’d check them out first. Then maybe Roland, but I think your best bet is Yamaha.

May 26, 2005 at 8:36 pmBut you know what guys? Even with a paired Kona2 and Io La, there still isn’t a way to capture the component signal from a Sony HDV camera. Isn’t component capture to DVCPRO HD still better than a FW capture to an HDV timeline?
So that’s a lot of clams for no component HD capture from Sony HDV cameras.
Any additional thoughts?

May 27, 2005 at 2:33 pmWith the rendering times being reported around using native HDV to MPEG-2 SD, I’d think that the 1 grand you’d pay for a component analog to HDSDI out converter box from AJA is well worth the investment to “upconvert” HDV to the DVCPRO100 or uncompressed HD codecs… I’d do this in a heartbeat.
