changng text
Posted by Sue Rothberg on August 11, 2008 at 11:28 pmi am a newbie here…and i couldn’t find a relevant posting to my quesiton. i am creating a text layer and all is well until i try to change the font or the color. each time i try using the source text line then go to the color/character palette, nothing happens. i have no idea what is going on. the words are highlighted but the moment i go to the palette they are no longer highlighted and no change happens.

August 12, 2008 at 12:03 amAre you using the Character tools? If you don’t see it, go to Windows and select Character or hit CTRL+6 to open it.
Highlight your text, and use the Character tools to change the font color.
Hope this helps!

August 12, 2008 at 12:05 amThis is assuming you have created the text using Layer>New>Text to create a text layer. There are other instances of editable text you can bring in, but creating the text in After Effects is the simplest way to be able to maintain change making.

August 12, 2008 at 3:09 amWhat version of AE are you using? Are you PC or Mac? Do you have any adjustment layers? Sorry for shooting back your questions with questions… Racking my brain trying to figure out what you have going on there!

August 12, 2008 at 11:48 amCan you change the text? Not the color, but the actual text itself? What happens if you select it and try to add to the line or edit the text?
What version of After Effects are you using?

August 12, 2008 at 12:00 pmcs3- yes i can add to the text. i think i just figured this out. if i just double click and don’t highlight the line with the cursor that seems to work. the jitter is still there. i am moving text across the screen from side to side and even with a de-interlace filter it is terrible.

August 12, 2008 at 12:25 pmYeah its usually easier to select the text by clicking the layer itself.
The jitter on the text… how fast does it move? Is it a hard edge text? Try applying a Fast Blur of 1 or 2 and try it again. This usually isn’t as much of an issue on horizontal motion, though it might help. Without seeing the jitter its hard to try and help…
Can you post a clip of the jittery text move?
