  • changing the order of clips in the timeline…without having it overlap or delete other clips.

    Hi,

I’ve just switched to premiere pro and I’ve been trying to learn the program for the last couple of days. I’m use to the basic features of ulead videostudio in which on can move each clip around the timeline and not worry about it covering or deleting another clip. Instead, when you slide the clip over to the desired location and drop it, any clips in the way automatically make room.

In Premiere Pro, when I do the same and drop the clip, nothing moves out of the way instead it just covers what happens to be there. Is there a tool or setting I can use to change this or does one just have to manually keep moving things in the timeline if you decide to change the order of the clips????

    Please help me.

Modifier keys. Learn to use modifier keys. In this case, hold the Ctrl key – if I remember correctly. Grab what you want, press the control key. It will insert the clip instead of overlay.
